FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
I am very excited for this year to begin. There has been a lot of work at Hedge School
this summer. As we begin the year, I
challenge every student to give their very best every day. I hope that students were able to complete
their summer reading. Forms will be due
the second week of school. I ask parents
to try to volunteer at Hedge School at least once this year. We need your help for a successful school
year! I sent home a volunteer form in
the newsletter with some opportunities.
There will be more available on the first day of school. You can turn in this form when you come in.
Tuesday, September 4th is the first day of school for
grades 1 through 5. Students should not
arrive before 8:35 am and students are let into school at 8:50 am. On the first day of school, we will gather
as a school for the Pledge of Allegiance and morning announcements. After opening exercises parents will be able
to escort their child to their classroom, then come to the gym for a short
meeting and question and answer period.
I hope you are able to join us on the first day of school. Friday, September 7th is the first
day of school for all kindergarten students.
I will meet with all kindergarten parents after they escort their child
to the classroom.
I hope you have a great last day of summer vacation and I look
forward to seeing you on Tuesday or Friday.

Scholastic Reading Counts
Scholastic Reading Counts is now up and running for the 2011 - 2012 school year! Students in grades 2 through 5 can now complete quizzes from home AND in school.
After a student reads a book, they can go on Scholastic Reading Counts and take a 10 question quiz. Upon completion of the quiz, students earn a number of points depending on how they scored and the complexity of the book they read. Students are recognized for reaching different point thresholds.
Students should click on the following link, enter their user name and password, then take the quiz :

The link will always be available on the Hedge School website or going to this post.
